The International Institute of Social History

"The International Institute of Social History (IISH) is one of the world's largest documentary and research institutions for social history in general and for the history of the labor movement in particular. Its homepage contains a formidable online catalog of the IISH's 2,000 archival collections which hold over one million printed volumes and about as many audio-visual items. Also included are a listing of current books put out by the Institute's publishing house, a digital social history archive of "relevant parts of the Internet," and the online newsletter of the Institute for the International Association of Labour History Institutions. Two other items of interest are a collection of useful social and labor history links, and digital editions of recent exhibitions at the IISH.Scout Report, Copyright Susan Calcari, 1994-1997."
The National Register of Historic Places

"The National Register of Historic Places is the Nation's official list of cultural resources worthy of preservation. Authorized under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Register is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect our historic and archeological resources." The site includes a searchable database of properties listed in the National Register as well as information about traveling to National Register Properties, teaching about National Register sites and information about National Register publications.
National Trust for Historic Preservation

"The National Trust for Historic Preservation, chartered by Congress in 1949, is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the irreplaceable. It fights to save historic buildings and the neighborhoods and landscapes they anchor." This searchable site includes information on historic home ownership, at-risk sites, historic site travel, public policy issues concerning historic preservation, and a calendar of preservation related events.

"The Oral History Association, established in 1966, seeks to bring together all persons interested in oral history as a way of collecting human memories...In addition to fostering communication among its members, the OHA encourages standards of excellence in the collection, preservation, dissemination and uses of oral testimony. To guide and advise those concerned with oral documentation, the OHA has established a set of goals, guidelines, and evaluation standards for oral history nterviews." This site offers information on oral history, membership, publications, the annual meeting, committees, awards and links to other sites, as well as oral history evaluation guidelines.
