- Public Library Peer Comparison Tool
http://nces.ed.gov/surveys/libraries/compare/Index.asp?Libra...
- "Peer comparison allows the user to compare one library, the "library of interest", with a group of similar libraries, "the peer group". For example, one library may wish to compare its total circulation with that of a group of similar libraries. The validity of these comparisons is dependent on the similarity between the library of interest and its peer group. Thus, before making comparisons of total circulation, the user may elect to choose peer libraries that have similar total expenditures and serve similarly sized populations. Peer comparison is explained in more detail in an NCES Statistics in Brief "How Does Your Public Library Compare? Service Performance of Peer groups", by Keri Bassman." This report is available online at http://nces.ed.gov/pubsearch/pubsinfo.asp?pubid=98310. In addition to the very powerful Peer Locator Tool, this site also features an online tutorial and extensive information about the survey used to gather the information.
